Organizing your garage is one of those things that you will do someday soon. And when that day comes, you'll find an excuse to convince yourself you'll do it next weekend.
But that's because you don't know how to do it right. With these 7 tips to get your garage in order, you'll get the job done in no time - and with no delays! 1. Plan, plot, and prepare yourself Organizing your garage seems like a daunting task - because it is! Just thinking about it can bum you out. We get it, but you only have to spend a day doing this. It'll only take a day if you plan ahead, though. Otherwise, this task will consume your entire weekend and then some. So, figure out what you're keeping, what you're throwing out, and where things are going to go - before you get down to business. A great thing to do is make an inventory before the big day. That way, it'll give you time to think about what you'll keep and what you'll donate. 2. Things go out before coming back in (if they do at all) One way of doing this wrong is by shuffling things from one side to another, aimlessly trying to shove things where they don't fit. Don't! You have to remove everything, put it outside, and then take a deep breath. Believe me, that extra oxygen is necessary. Once everything is laying outside, get everything that you'll donate out of the way. You'll soon realize the job is halfway done! 3. Go on a baskets, bins, and cabinets craze How are you going to fit more stuff in an already-crowded garage? Well, wrong question! You should be asking how baskets, bins, and cabinets are going to help you. And, the truth is, they're going to add more space in your garage. You read that right. Not only that, but they will help you organize your garage like no other thing. Put your high school trophies in a bin and your gardening tools in a cabinet. Throw the tennis ball and racket inside the basket. Little by little, you'll soon realize you had more space than you thought. Also, remember to put a trashcan in there somewhere. People often forget about this part. Or, before you know it, you're picking up trash off the floor the next time you're organizing your garage. 4. Sometimes, vertical is better Putting things on the wall is a great way to make your garage seem bigger than it is. Instead of leaving your bike on the floor, strap it on the wall. Go vertical! This also works for tools and other stuff that you need at a hand's reach. 5. Don't be afraid to improvise The bikes go here, the bins go there. You made both an inventory list and a plan - and you're sticking to it! Right? No, wrong! You will miss a thing, forget another, and before you know it, you'll have to improvise. Alright, don't panic! There's nothing wrong with improvising when it's time to organize your garage. Feel free to do so. Add some fun into the mix. (No, leaving everything on the floor and going to watch TV doesn't qualify as improvising.) 6. Take care of intruders too This is a little, somewhat-unrelated tip about organizing your garage - but highly important. Take care of ants, spiders, and all kinds of bugs. There's no better time to do this than when you're organizing your garage. Everything is out in the open, including pests. 7. While you're at it, make sure everything is working properly What's in your garage is important - but what surrounds it matters just as much. For example, you should check your garage door at least once a year. Don't do it on your own, though! Due to safety issues, garage doors need checked by professionals - like us! You'll organize your garage and we'll make sure everything else works as it should be. If you have any questions, contact us! We're more than happy to help.
